American independent director Travis Mathews is known for his sexually explicit titles. His multi-city documentary series In Thier RoomI Want Your Love, and works in collaboration with with James Franco, Interior. Leather. Bar. (2013) and Discreet (2017), are films that examine the male physique and sex in a extremely realistic way. Filmed in Brazil, his first non-English language film Just Past Noon on a Tuesday (2018) also depicts the affection hidden under our flesh.

Tiago's lover Marco has just passed away. He goes to Marco's place and finds his private diary where Marco wrote down a list of his past hookups. Driven by curiosity, Tiago randomly chooses a person--a complete stranger--and asks him to come to Marco's. The stranger knows nothing about Marco. It is not until he arrives that he learns from Tiago about Marco's death. The man knows clearly how to "treat" Tiago's guilt and grief.

In Just Past Noon on a Tuesday, director Mathews takes advantage of a narrative both brief and concise, sublimating sex to a level beyond instinctual needs. Although the two men hardly know each other, both of them make love and kiss tenderly. Marco, their absent connection, takes their sex beyond sex, it is love-making.

In a short Tuesday afternoon, they have reached into each other's heart by simply talking with each other. The man asks Tiago what he would think if he also documented every sex-partner he has had like Marco. The two talk about each other's favorite body parts, and although now only their faces are presented to the audience and not their naked bodies, their talk has become even more intimate and seductive.

The man mentions that fleeting things are even stronger and more realistic. It is not just about him and Tiago, but rather all relationships, and Marco's life as well. Both of them do sense Marco's existence now. Marco's house has a photo taken in New York, in which a boy is at the back seat of a car. That photo is so realistic that makes one feel like one is part of the photo.

Both of them seek consolation in each other, while commemorating Marco in his own house. Tiago picks up a toy plane before he leaves. Maybe this action symbolizes that Tiago, who has never been to New York, will go to travel to the Big Apple, will go beyond guilt and grief, becoming the boy in that photo, encountering Marco once again.
