Taiwan is the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. Beyond the inherent historic significance of this event, it's also led the people and even governments of neighboring countries to give this issue serious consideration. Now, a new BL show from Japan titled We're Both Grooms is taking on this question, painting a portrait of how to handle coming out to your family as well as how to deal with pressure from other people around you and their traditional values.

We're Both Grooms revolves around elementary school teacher Seto Ryosuke and lemon farmer Aikawa Mizuki, who are about to get married. Amid the excitement of their upcoming nuptials, they suddenly realize Ryosuke has yet to come out to any of his friends or family. Ryosuke finds himself struggling with the question of how to convince his traditional and thoroughly old-school father to agree to his marriage. Meanwhile, Mizuki's ex-boyfriend shows up looking for a second chance with Mizuki. With matters apparently headed for disaster, can our heroes overcome these obstacles with the strength of their love and achieve their happy ending?

Playing Seto Ryosuke in We're Both Grooms is Hayama Shono, a talented young actor from Japan who's already made something of a name for himself. An alum of Meguro Nihon University Junior High and High School (which is known as a breeding ground for future stars), he was inspired with an interest in acting by the movie JUDO HIGH. He was snapped up by a talent agency while still in junior high, and at the age of sixteen made his debut in Suzuki Sensei. The next year, he was cast in a movie for the very time in A Gentle Rain Falls for Fukushima, properly kicking off his long career in acting.

Hayama Shono's best-known works include Yae no Sakura, Mare, and The Full-Time Wife Escapist, among others. But that's not all; in 2018, his consummate acting skills won him the New Wave Award at the 28th Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival for his performance in Love Begins When the Bell Rings for the End of School.
