Ever since Taiwan legalized the passage of same-sex marriage in 2019, features relating to the subject matter have been popping up like mushrooms after rain. In a first for all of Asia, Papa & Daddy, the opening installment in GagaOOLala's 2021 Queer Up the Volume anthology project, became the region's very first gay parent series and this time around, we are introduced to Swingin’, a Taiwanese gay parenting short film, starring Mountain Hao and Steven Chiang that won the hearts and praise of attendees at several international queer film festivals.

Swingin’ centers on the story of Qiu, an eleven-year-old boy with two dads. Often taunted by other kids who say he must be gay just like his dads, Qiu sets out to prove once and for all that he’s an extremely masculine, manly straight man! But in the midst of of discovering and proving his manhood, Qiu unexpectedly awakens his own curiosity about romance, and bravely begins the journey toward his own coming-of-age.

Swingin’ brings Taiwanese actors Mountain Kao and Steven Chiang together for the first time to play husbands on screen. Though he’s nearly fifty and happily married to boot, Mountain—once acclaimed as a natural heartthrob—has once again become a hot topic of discussion for his role as a gay man in the film.
Throughout his longstanding career in the Taiwanese showbiz industry, Mountain has always been known primarily as a model and actor. Some of his best-known works include At the Dolphin Bay, Boysitter, and Best Interest. with the actor recently taking up cameo roles in leading gay feature films such as 2020's Your Name Engraved Herein and 2021's Moneyboys.

Over the years, Mountain has thoroughly polished his acting skills and become a three-time Golden Bell Award nominee. Beyond acting, he’s also released an album, published three books, and hosted Happy Little Buddha and Taiwan Good, and even been named the first winner of the Formosa TV Award for Best Host of a Children’s Program.
And now the massively multitalented Mountain Kao is all set to introduce us to his portrayal of the perfect gay dad through Swingin', exclusively available to stream over at GagaOOLala.
